  1. pidentd was written by Peter Eriksson of Linkoping University, Sweden,
  2. <pen@lysator.liu.se>, and is distributed with permission.

  4. This is a source + binary distribution of pidentd 2.6.1 with some local
  5. modifications.  The modifications are clearly delineated and have been
  6. submitted to the author for inclusion in a future release.  It was built
  7. by Bela Lubkin of SCO, <belal@sco.com>, on 95/07/30.

  9. Methods used:
  10.  
  11.   The file pidentd-2.6.1.tar.gz was obtained via ftp from
  12.   <ftp://ftp.lysator.liu.se/pub/ident/servers> on 95/06/30.
  13.   The tar file was extracted and built by typing `make sco32_5` on an
  14.   SCO OpenServer Release 5 system.  Some bugs were then observed and
  15.   corrected.  The source distributed in this directory contains these
  16.   corrections.  A file, SCO-PATCH, contains context diffs which could
  17.   have been used to create this distribution from the original pidentd
  18.   2.6.1 distribution.  Because the patch program is reversible, this
  19.   also allows the original distribution to be created from the sources
  20.   provided here.

  22.   The patched sources were also copied to an SCO Open Server 3.0 system
  23.   and compiled with `make sco32_42`.

  25. Installation:

  27.   See the file INSTALL.  On an SCO system, the binary might be installed
  28.   as /etc/in.identd (or /etc/identd), setgid mem.  It can then be run as
  29.   user "nouser" from /etc/inetd.conf.

  31.   A pre-nroff'd version of the man page is present as "identd.LOCAL".
